Description:

CS25 Silicone Rubber is a 2-component casting compound with low viscosity, used to make molds of objects. CS25 is highly user-friendly and easy to use.

Once cured, it is soft and flexible, making it highly suitable for creating molds of objects with intricate shapes. Its relatively long open time (the time you can work with it before it begins to cure) allows you to pour carefully and remove air bubbles from the mixture. You can also use a vacuum chamber to remove air bubbles from this silicone if desired. This compound produces a highly accurate cast/reproduction of the object being cast.

The finished mold can be used to make copies of the original part with excellent surface reproduction using materials such as polyester, epoxy, polyurethane resin, urethane, wax, plaster, and so on.

In summary:

  • Easy to use, requires no special equipment
  • High tear strength and good stretchability make it easy to remove complex castings without damaging the cast.
  • Good chemical resistance to styrenes and polyurethanes.
  • Low viscosity, good flow properties
  • Excellent value for money
  • We recommend using a syringe to extract the hardener from the bottle

Mixing ratio and curing times

100 parts by weight base (Condensation Cure Silicone Rubber)
5 parts by weight hardener (Condensation Cure Silicone Catalyst)

Working time after mixing the base and hardener: Approx. 30 minutes at 20°C

Curing time at 20°C: Approx. 24 hours.

The casting compound cures down to 10°C, but curing will take longer at low temperatures.

This casting compound consists of two components (base and hardener), and the package contains the correct amount of each component. The base and hardener must be mixed together in the correct ratio for the casting compound to cure.

Directions for use

  1. Get a clean box or container to use for the casting work.
  2. Place the object to be cast/reproduced in the box. It may be glued to the bottom of the box so that it does not move when you pour in the casting compound.
  3. Shake the hardener bottle before mixing it with the base.
  4. Use a mixing cup, a graduated syringe, or a scale to measure the correct amount of base and hardener.
  5. Mix thoroughly but carefully to avoid whipping air into the mixture when mixing the two components.
  6. Scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing cup to ensure that the hardener and base are thoroughly mixed together.
  7. Then pour the fully mixed casting compound over the object in the box that is to be cast. Pour carefully and in a thin stream. Allow the casting compound to flow over and cover the object in the box.
  8. If air bubbles form on the surface of the casting compound, you can pop them using a toothpick. If you have a vacuum chamber, this can also be used to remove air bubbles from the casting compound.
  9. Allow the casting compound to cure for 24 hours at 20°C.
  10. Once the casting compound has cured, remove the container or box from the fully cured casting compound.
  11. Then remove the casting compound from the object you have cast. If necessary, use a utility knife to assist.
  12. If you have used a utility knife to split the cured casting compound to release it from the object you have cast, you can tape the mold back together before filling it with epoxy to make a new reproduction.

Always perform a test

CS25 Silicone Rubber can be used to make casts of most types of objects made of plastic, metal, wood, etc. Remember, some objects must be coated with wax before pouring the casting compound over them so that it will release from the object after curing.

We always recommend performing a test before undertaking important work to ensure you are confident in how the materials perform.

Wear gloves and safety glasses, and ensure good ventilation when using the casting compound.

Always familiarize yourself with the safety data sheet and study the technical data in the SDS and TDS, respectively.
